WHAT THEY DON’T TELL YOU ABOUT VARSITY

Envy

Few years ago a batch of varsity students arrived at our school to kindle the spark of hope to form 5 pupils who were about to face their final examination in 6 months’ time. Me, seeing them, I was green with envy for they were everything I wanted; the varsity title and all the attention that comes with it. I am certain I was not alone.

Dubious

When they were given the platform by the school administration, they all preached the same gospel that varsity life was all fun and games. Of course, most of us were dubious but we were greatly motivated by the idea of going to this utopic world. Who wouldn’t want to get a break from 12 years of school life? At last someone was giving us an escape from this prison. Finally, we were going to get the reward for our hard work. We were finally going to paint the town red, so we believed.

Lied

In 2014, I completed form 5 and in 2016 I went to the varsity. As things turn out, the grass is always greener on the other side. After they motivated us; those of us who were able, we worked hard to score enough credits for the Promised Land, as they promised us money, girls and independence. Of course, most of us boys were mostly interested in girls. Well, they were not lying about girls and independence. But they forgot to mention that everything comes with a price.

Reality

The reality is that varsity life is hard, to say the least. Independence comes with responsibilities, and girls cost an arm and a leg. Not to mention that the subjects are difficult. In my 3 years of varsity I have learnt that there are two most expensive things at varsity: money and time. Subjects that took one 2 years to complete now they demand that you complete them in 4 months. Everything one needs on daily basis requires one to pony up. I discovered that now girls require girlfriend allowance, can you imagine?

Differ

Some people may beg to differ for a good reason. They are probably born with a silver spoon in their mouth. They don’t know the pain of sleeping with an empty stomach, getting enough student allowance just to keep the wolf at the door. Leaving someone you love just because she too expensive for you. That is what my varsity life was like. It was all about pain and suffering.

Conclusion

All in all, life is not easy wherever you are. Sooner or later you will be forced to grab life by the tail, if you want to be anything in life. ‘As we speak right now the kingdom of God suffered violence and the violent take it by force’, so the scriptures says. Varsity life is better than high school life, what are your views?
